The Dromesko Compound

La ferme du Haut Bois/ The headquarters at Saint Jacques de la Lande in the Rennes Metropolitan area.

Since the month of March, in 1998, Dromesko planted down and made camp on "La ferme du Haut Bois" in Saint Jacques de la Lande.

The compound includes:
- A central farm, a reception office, along with housing (bedrooms, kitchen, parlor) as well as different places used solely for the storing of materials and the installation of a few workshops (barn, garage).
- The terrain allows for the easy construction of Dromesko’s mobile structures (The two little shacks, the large shack that house the shows Les Voiles Écarlates and L’Utopie Fatigue les Escargots, and today the shack is home to the show Arrêtez le Monde, Je Voudrais Descendre).

Until the end of 1998, in the spirit of grouping common artistic activities and interests together, Dromesko, and the Théâtre de Radeau jointly occupied this property, called “The Compound”. Since January 1999, the principal role of the Compound is to house the rehearsals and shows presented by the Théâtre Dromesko. However, the compound also welcomes other groups (Le Radeau, Les Frères Forman, also The Little Shack Theater, called “Le Tonneau”, La Carriole, Maguy Marin, Pierre Meunier, Théâtre à l’Envers, Théâtre des Lucioles … as well as others).
Though a place of creation above all, the Compound also serves as a place of crossing ideas, of living, of meeting people, of reflection and of sharing.
Since 1998, the “Base Camp” watched as half of its property was amputated and replaced by a growing countryside of concrete.

In 2002, a deep look into the future of the Compound, brought about by the city of Saint Jacques de la Lande, the Rennes Metropolis, and the architect Patrick Bouchain, drove us to assent to a project of revamping it. The Compound was defined at the time as “ a place of production, of rehearsal, of creation, of performance, of evening concerts; a workshop, a place of crossing paths, of exchanging ideas; a place of welcoming and of housing for artists, choreographers, musicians, designers, creators, architects, puppeteers…”
In short, it’s a public place where artists and the public meet, cross paths, and live around the art and the questions that they have.”
Work on renovating the Farm was put under way with the repairing of the roofs in 2006 and the work will continue in 2010/2011 with the renovation of the interior of the buildings.
